Meet Juan Contreras, AM, LCSW

I’m so glad you’re here. Explore my bio—I’m here when you’re ready.
— Juan

My name is Juan (he/him/él). I am a therapist, supervisor, and owner of Mindful Therapy Services.

Who I see: Individuals—including teens and adults—as well as partners and couples seeking relationship therapy and couples counseling. My focus includes supporting people experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, and trauma, particularly when trauma is tied to guilt, shame, or self-hate.

I specialize in providing affirming and supportive care to folks with immigrant backgrounds, children of immigrants, LGBTQ+ folks, BIPOC individuals, and those who are neurodivergent.

In relationship work, I support partners in strengthening communication, navigating challenges around intimacy and sex, exploring open or non-traditional structures, addressing infidelity, and building deeper, more connected partnerships.

How I work: I promise to show up as a real, compassionate human and to center your unique needs in every step of our work together. My approach is grounded in evidence-based practices and guided by a relational framework, meaning I value the relationship between the client(s) and therapist as a change mechanism. I integrate techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Psychodynamic Therapy, and the Gottman Method to support your growth in a collaborative, respectful, and tailored way.

We might work well together if you want a space to explore your emotions, thoughts, and behaviors intentionally. You want more than just a place to vent—you’re ready to process your experiences, gain meaningful insight, and build practical tools for growth.

My approach is collaborative and directive, offering gentle challenges along the way. If you appreciate humor, chill vibes, authentic connection, and someone who truly listens to your inner wisdom, I might be your therapist.

A bit about me, I'm proud to be Mexican-American and continue to carry my culture with me every day. Outside of therapy sessions, you might find me playing my Xbox, rewatching what I consider a great show, visiting a new cafe around the city, or even piloting a plane.

I believe, being a therapist is a profound honor and a true privilege.
